Hi,

Marie makes some good points.

I have some amazon Echoes and Sonos speakers but I also toy with the idea of getting a home Pod mini but for perhaps different reasons than have been cited thus far. I'm drawn to it as a means of having a hub for any home kit enabled devices I might have now or in future such as video doorbells, thermostats and garage door openers. Having a Home pod mini in use as a hub for such allows the user to access them when not on one's own home network. Of course this can also be done with an iPad too but one always has to be sure it's powered up and online. I just wanted to mention this as another facet of the decision making process as I'd not seen others mention it thus far.

Take good care.

Robin

The main thing I love about the Sonos and/or the Home pods is the ability to send whatever I am playing to all the speakers in my home. Since I live alone I can move to another room and still hear my music, or a football game or radio station. I have a bit over 1800 square feet to roam and prefer not having to carry a device around whenever I wander. This way I can concentrate on my navigation. LOL! FYI I have set up Amazon, Google and Sonos speakers with no sighted assistance with very little or no trouble and know there will be no problem with the Home pods I plan to try when available. So it is nonsense to say we can’t do this.

You can use it to control your own music library at home or in the cloud that you own

Hi folks,

I have never owned a smart speaker. For this reason, excuse my question. It may sound naïve to many of you. If one wants to get the Home Pod Mini, or any other smart speaker for that matter, but this person does not want to subscribe to any music streaming service, what would be the benefits of owning such a smart speaker? I understand that one can use it to airplay YouTube music or radio stations via the iPhone Bluetooth connection. Apart from that, what one can use the speaker as a standalone besides SIRI or Alexa? Is it worth for someone who has no intention to spend money on streaming services to buy a smart speaker like the Home Pod Mini? Apple mentioned that the home pod will be accessible via voice over. I do not know if this means it will be controlled via the voice over of the iPhone, or does it have voice over built into it. Does anyone know?

Regards,

Cris Ali
