I agree with Richard. Those who already have Voice Dream Reader will have it with scanning capabilities after they install the update without any additional charge. I've never had any app where an update resulted in an additional charge. Those apps that have made extensive changes requiring an additional payment have all made it clear that the new app which has a name to distinguish it from the original one has to be purchased.
I'll go on to say that anyone getting Voice Dream Reader for $9.99 USD is getting an excellent deal especially after the update with scanning is added.
