And what happens if after it takes you to the app store you then simply exit
the app store or go back to the app in question via the app switcher?

That’s not what’s happening here. When I open the app (I’m talking about the
iRobot app in this case) I am presented with a screen informing me that an
update is available. There is a button that says “update” which when tapped
takes me to the app store. There is no way to decline this update and no way to
know beforehand whether accessibility will still be working once completed.

I have automatic updates turned off already. But thanks for your reply.

I am definitely going to report these madatory updates to Apple accessibility.
This case pertains to the iRobot app, but I have seen the same behavior in
other apps too.

If you wish to prevent apps from updating automatically, go to: Settings >
AppStore, swipe to App Update, and turn this feature off.

Are there some specific apps you can site as examples?
I've not run into this.
Do you have automatic updates turned off in your iPhone settings?

Subject: Apps forcing you to update -- is it possible to skip?

Hi all,

Recently I've noticed a rather disturbing trend in various iPhone apps.
Frequently when an update is available I am presenting with an update button
upon opening the app in question. This is okay except when there is no way to
get past this screen without doing the update.

As any voiceover user knows, there are times when an update breaks
accessibility. If the app is one that I use frequently I often want to wait to
be sure that vo will still work,.

Is there a strategy -- aside from writing to the developer -- to skip these
forced updates and continue using the version of the app that is currently
working for me?

Thanks for your thoughts.
