Hi Larry, My book Getting Started with the iPhone is about to be released by National Braille Press. This is an updated version designed to help beginners get started, and it will be available in several formats. It's currently listed on their site, but the link to the book page doesn't work, so I assume it's not quite out but should be very soon.
appleVis has lots of information for new users, and there are tutorials at Hadley as well.
