HI Brenda,

I suspect you might be right about eSIM only working on Verizon postpaid
accounts. I ended up not even attempting to activate my new iPhone 13 Mini
using the eSIM option. I had ordered a physical SIM from Verizon which was good
since my account is Verizon Prepaid. I had a hard enough time getting my new
iPhone activated on Verizon which I attribute to attempting to do it with my
old mobile phone which was using the same phone number as the new phone I was
attempting to set up. I should have figured out this wasn’t going to work but
until I got disconnected in the middle of the process, I did not make the
connection, pun intended. Fortunately, I had an available landline I was able
to use to complete the process with Verizon help. Next time, I’ll use my
computer and the Verizon website to activate a new iPhone.

I am on the Apple upgrade program. I used the Esim to activate my service
transfer from the 12 to the 13. I am on Verizon also, but on a postpaid
account. It’s working fine, but I kind of wish I could just have kept the
physical sim, which is a lot easier to deal with in the event of repair issues,
beta testing that goes bad, etc. I don’t think they offer Esim on the prepaid
lines though, but I could be wrong on this.

Subject: Has anyone activated a new iPhone to use eSIM instead of a physical
SIM?

Hi List,

I realize the answer to my question might vary considerably depending on
country of location and mobile service carrier. I’ve ordered a new iPhone 13
Mini and since I have a Verizon Prepaid account, I was unable to specify
Verizon as my carrier when ordering using the Apple Store app. The order would
fail each time the app attempted to confirm my Verizon account so I had to
select the option to purchase the phone for use on any carrier. Phones ordered
in this way come with no SIM card. I understand from the email Apple sent me
indicating my iPhone had shipped that I can use eSIM when activating it. I’m
curious whether anyone on this list has gone the eSIM route when activating a
new iPhone containing no physical SIM. If you have, I’d love to hear what the
steps were to do and how your experience was.

I’ve been advised not to transfer my existing SIM from my SE 2020 to the 13
Mini so I do have a new physical SIM which I got Verizon to mail me. I’ll use
that if the eSIM activation doesn’t work.

Thanks in advance for any comments eSIM users can share.
