It turned out the volume on Siri and dictation had been turned down for some ungodly reason. With 16 I now have those alerts as well as messages in the “notification center.” No matter if it  is on or off, it still gives me those alerts and hangs onto them until I clear them. I never used to have to do that.                                 I do not know what phone I might even want once the SE dies, and that is too bad because I am glued to my phone as is. I only get the new, quieter, tone if I hold in the button.
