Janet, I'm curious: Are you saying that Face ID worked on your X R before you updated to iOS 16.2?
If so, then you already know how to use Face ID and my previous comments were in error. Please let me know. I eagerly await your reply, Mark -----Original Message----- From: vipho...@googlegroups.com <vipho...@googlegroups.com> On Behalf Of janet gross Sent: Sunday, January 8, 2023 8:40 PM To: vipho...@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Face ID and iOS 16.2 Help Please.. ease/ Hi Mark, Thank you for your understanding. I am just so tired of this so called accessible technology! I've spent two days working on this phone, just because I updated. I've read online if one has a hard time with Face ID after updating, just tap on the Face ID reset button, but I don't have the Face ID button. So now, I will have to spend more time on the phone with the Apple Support tomorrow again! It sounds horrible and very scary; at least, it would be scary to me to have to erase my phone in order to get it back to a functioning state. Second, I have given your post a great deal of consideration. Let me say that, regardless of what some would lead you to believe, for those of us who are visually impaired, Face ID is far from perfect. I am assuming that , like many of us, you cannot see the contents of the phone display when it is held at any distance from your face. If this is the case, then you are holding the device too close to your face when attempting to setup Face ID. It may also be the case that the lighting is either too low or not even enough, when setting up Face ID. Were I you, I would ask a sighted person to assist during the Face ID setup process. In short, you will have to learn the approximate distance from your face, to hold the phone in order to use Face ID. As many have reported in this community, this can be learned but, make no mistake, it does take time and practice. Also keep in mind that even sighted users have to enter the device password more than was necessary when Touch ID was in vogue. So, I suggest that you keep a pair of headphones with you, when in public, just in case you need to enter the device password. Please know that you have our support and try not to be too hard on yourself. Learning to use Face ID takes time. Let us know how it goes, okay? I finally upgraded to iOS 16.2 from iOS 15.7 on my XR phone, and I had to erase the entire phone in order to get back my phone calls in the recent folder of the Phone App. All that so far is fine. Another problem I am now having is I can't set up Face ID. When I try to set it up, I keep getting a message saying my face is not in the frame, then I get a message saying Face ID can't detect any sun glasses put on sun glasses and try again, but I'm not wearing glasses. Sometimes I get the message saying move my head to the right, and then move my head to the left, move my head up. I then get a message saying 30 percent. 65 percent move head up, I move my head and it says Face ID not available try again later. I checked in the detention feature and it is off. Can someone please tell me is there a new way of setting up Face ID in iOS 16.2? I feel this is a real security threat not being able to use Face ID. When I am around people, when I am in the store, when I am in the doctor's office, I have to enter in my passcode using Voiceover, in which means everyone can hear my passcode. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Janet -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
