10 Sonos speakers in an apartment is certainly a lot unless your apartment is bigger than most people's houses! I am actually in the process of downsizing my Sonos system a bit, we currently have 3 stereo pairs of Sonos On (bathroom, kitchen and my woodworking shop) and I used to have a stereo pair of Five in the bedroom as well as a set of One SL as rear speakers for our Sonos surround setup in the living room. After we did a renovation a year ago combining our master bedroom (which wasn't that big) with another bedroom next door to a larger master bedroom and making the third bedroom upstairs and a short hallway part of the now much larger living room, I put in-wall speakers into the new bedroom wall which are connected to a Sonos Amp which sits on a high shelf in a walk-in closet. I then replaced the One SL speakers with the set ofg Fives for a better rear surround experience. This leaves me with the 2 One SL speakers as well as the 2 stereo pair of Sonos One from the kitchen and my workshop and I am planning to sell all 6 of them since I now bought a second Move to make a stereo pair and this will be in the kitchen and it can go into my workshop oru outside if we want it there since it has a rechargeable battery. Of course I may end up selling the pair of Fives as well if the new Era 100 and 300 have upfiring speakers for a better Dolby Atmos experience and ultimately we are also planning a bathroom reno and I am pretty sure I will at that stage go back to in-wall or in-ceiling speakers connected to an Amp instead of having the Sonos Ones mounted to the wall. 2 sets of my Ones are first generation so I can get the 15% upgrade credit on them which I can then use for adding some of the Era 100 or 300, it was definitely a smart move when Sonos introduced these upgrade credits. I had quite a bit old Sonos gear from around 2009/2010 and all of that qualified for the 30% upgrade credit and since Sonos still let's you sell it, I got some pretty good deals on the newer stuff.

But now I am going to wait and see if they will refresh that model. I bought a roam last year and gave it to Nicki, my wife, who had a specific need for it and it serves her well. The accessibility of the Sonos system is very good except on the Mac. I made several requests to have their Mac app as accessible as the PC and iPhone app. Regarding the battery status, however, I have several Sony Headphones that will give me the battery status with the push of a button. I have two WH1000-XM4 which still sell on Amazon for around $250 even though the XN5 model is available for around $350. The right side of the headphones are touch but very accessible. The left side has push buttons. One button speaks the battery status when pushed while the headphones are in operation. If I didn’t already own the WH1000-XM4 I would have the XM5 because of the greater noise reduction for making calls in a crowded room. But the XN4 are my go to headphones on the iPhone and totally accessible. Getting back to Sonos, I have never been disappointed with their quality or their committment to accessibility. If I lived in a house rather than an apartment, I would own a lot more than the ten Sonos speakers that I currently do own. While on the subject of Sonos: I was wondering recently whether there are any other brands who have speakers which one can speak to and get the information about the battery spoken back. When I discovered I had access to Sonos Voice I quickly got it set up and was blown away by the fact that I could do that. To my mind, that makes them eminently accessible. There are other bluetooth speakers and headphones on which one can press a button and get that information but this is the first time I’ve seen anything quite like what I can do with my Roam and Move. By CHRIS WELCH/ Feb 8, 2023, 3:53 PM PST During Sonos’ Q1 2023 earnings call, CEO Patrick Spence expressed the usual optimism about his company’s financial performance, sales momentum, and upcoming product roadmap. This man really loves the word “flywheel,” folks. But he also took clear jabs at Big Tech competitors, including Amazon, Google, and Apple, for barely putting up a fight in recent months. With Amazon rumored to be taking a hard look at its ambitions surrounding Alexa and Echo products and Google largely focused on all things Pixel, Spence said that Sonos faced no serious competition during the crucial holiday quarter. “We’ve gone through fiscal Q1, which is the height of the consumer electronics and audio season and we’ve seen some of the traditional players go heavy discounting and, kind of like a traditional playbook for consumer electronics that we’ve always fought against and don’t really believe in,” he said. “And then, the big tech players, we just haven’t seen them active and we haven’t seen them doing anything interesting.” Neither of Sonos’ primary smart speaker rivals launched any new audio hardware during the holiday quarter. And Apple’s second-generation HomePod arrived after it had already ended. But Sonos doesn’t seem all that impressed with or concerned about Apple’s resurrected $299 device. “We never want to get overconfident in these things, but you know, even seeing what’s emerged recently, from Apple, I could not be more excited or confident about the product roadmap we have and our ability to take more and more of that $96 billion global audio market,” Spence said. Google’s most recent home audio product is the aging Nest Audio, and Amazon’s fall 2022 hardware event went light on smart speakers: the company introduced a refreshed Echo Dot and added a new white color option for the top-of-the-line Echo Studio. The regular Echo speaker was last refreshed in 2020. I just feel like there’s others that are probably questioning their investments in this area, and we are investing in four new categories. We are going to raise the bar in our existing categories. I mean, we’ve got a lot going on,” Spence added. Sonos has said it will release a product in the first of those new categories sometime in 2023. In the nearer term, Sonos will be revitalizing its high-end home audio lineup with new speakers, including the Era 300 and Era 100. Both are designed to showcase spatial audio and Dolby Atmos. A second-generation Sonos Move portable speaker is also under development, The Verge has learned. Discounts on Sonos products over the holidays helped the company deliver strong earnings and beat Wall Street expectations for the Q1 fiscal quarter. This was the first time that Sonos had been able to offer those promotions in three years; the multi-room audio leader struggled to keep its speakers and soundbars in stock during the covid pandemic, facing the same supply chain woes that reverberated across the tech industry But the deals were back this time — even if some of them just returned Sonos products to their former pricing. Either way, the company put greater emphasis on bundles that boost its percentage of multi-product customer households. The average number of products for each Sonos household is currently 2.98. Sonos sees a $5 billion revenue opportunity if it can successfully convert single-product customers to the multi-device lifestyle. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
