I am happy with the new classical music app for the most part. It is very
accessible and searching is easy. The quality is high as you would expect with
classical music for maximum enjoyment. The ability to browse by composer,
genre, or even instrument as well as period made for hours of fun over the
weekend.
There are two small hitches that sort of take the shine off the Apple. And I’m
hoping they eventually correct this. I did call both Apple and Sonos and speak
to them in this regard.
First, the app is not currently a supported service of the Sonos system. While
Apple music is easily accessed all over my residence, the Apple Classical music
App needs a workaround to be channeled through the whole house Sonos system.
Second, while the app is available for the iPhone and iPad free to anyone who
subscribes to Apple Music, Apple has no plans to put this app in the Mac App
Store.
I have an M1 MacBook Pro so had expected to just load it as I do several iPad
apps and use Airfoil as a workaround. That is a Rogue Amoeba app and works very
well with Sonos. However, so far I have not been able to enjoy the Apple
Classical App through the whole house system. And I am hoping they correct that
with a future update either from Sonos or from Apple. Because I absolutely love
the app.
