Thanks for the info about selecting songs. I can get to the song, but after I double tap on it and exit the clock my alarm still defaults to the original sound. I think I’m missing a step somewhere.

M4R files are only required for ringtones and text tones. It can be tricky to get to the song selection in the alarm settings, it is either at the top of the list or at the very bottom where you have to use the three finger swipe up multiple times to reach it.
