What all is involved with installing a smart lock? I mean, does the lock
work off of Wifi and batteries? Or, do wires need to be run for any of
its
functionality? Also, if it works of of Wifi and your internet happens to
be
out, does it then use a backup battery and some sort of button press code
to

As Sarah said, you can assign a code to somebody you want to give access
to
your home, e.g. maybe you are away and there is a problem and somebody
like
a plumber or electrician has to get into your house. You can set up a
specific code for them and even set it up to only work on a specific day
between 8 AM and 5 PM. Same would work for somebody like a dog walker.
You
can also unlock and lock the door remotely so instead of giving somebody
a
code you might have a repair person coming, but you are at work. Just
tell
them to call you when they are at the door, then you can unlock for them.
I
use this all the time, we have a local person who does heavy, German
style
bread baked in a woodfired oven and she usually drops off for us, if she
is
at the door she can call or ring our Ring video doorbell, I answer the
call
or notification from the video doorbell and once I know it's her I unlock
the door, she puts the bread in the entry way and once she is out and the
door is closed I lock it again. It's super handy and I would never go
back
to a regular lock with key or even one with a keypad, but one which is
not
connected.

We also have a Schlage lock. I am just waiting for better availability
of
the latest model here in Canada which is compatible with whatever Apple
calls that new key technology. I think it's called the Encode Plus or
something like that. I believe that one also has Matter support.

accessible on iOS. However, the locks themselves are physical touch
screens
for the keypad. That's why I have to use my smart phone. But I do come
