It does help with the door detection feature in the magnifier. Also the image description and text identification and people ID in the magnifier as well. There are a few apps using it for better object recognition and distance of the object though I think that is only accurate within 15 or 20 feet or something. The hope is more app developers will find ways to use it. But, at this point, unless any of those things are high on your list of important features, it may not be worth the extra money just for that. Note, you get a better processor chip in the pro models too along with possibly better battery life, so it isn't just LIDAR that you get in the pro phones.
