this is called the getting warmer feature, and essentially after you’ve marked a location you’d like to go to regularly, you can then pull it up, and will tell you, approximately how far away it is, and what direction it is. With voice stream, and probably therefore, Voice Vista the direction was marked by tones in your ears to give fairly precise, directional information. blindSquare, good maps, my way light all have some feature like this.
