Having said what I did just a minute ago, it is of course very risky to have
all your music in iTunes Media and not to have any backups just as it is risky
not to have backups of all your other data whether documents, pictures or music.

So are we to assume that ring tones will fall under the heading of "files" I
saw no specific mention of ring tones.

If you had read the two articles I provided links for, you would know the
answer regarding Podcasts and Audio Books:
"For audiobooks and podcasts, Windows users still use the iTunes for Windows
app."
and the person who said these apps for Windows 11 also didn't read the articles
as he stated, but if he had he would have also read that these apps are
available for both Windows 10 and 11. The article from the Verge also had links
for the user guides for all three apps:

Apple has announced a major change for Windows users who use iTunes for Windows
with an iPhone or to access Apple Music and Apple TV. For Windows 10 or later,
Apple has released new “standalone experiences” for Apple Music and Apple TV as
well as a new Devices management app to replace former functionality in iTunes
for Windows:
• Apple
Devices<https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=111346X1569486&url=https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NP83LWLPZ9K&xcust=1-1-2230075-1-0-0&sref=https://www.macworld.com/article/2230075/itunes-windows-end-of-life-music-tv-devices-apps.html>:
This is the app for iPhone users to manage their iPhones: perform backups,
sync data, and install iOS updates.

For audiobooks and podcasts, Windows users still use the iTunes for Windows
app. That app is also used if any of the new apps don’t run on your PC. Apple
released iTunes for Windows on October 16, 2003, with iPod and iTunes Music
Store support.
Apple has a support document with more information on the new
apps<https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=111346X1569486&url=https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210384#619&xcust=1-1-2230075-1-0-0&sref=https://www.macworld.com/article/2230075/itunes-windows-end-of-life-music-tv-devices-apps.html>.

Apple has also released a redesigned iCloud for
Windows<https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=111346X1569486&url=https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/apps/9PKTQ5699M62&xcust=1-1-2230075-1-0-0&sref=https://www.macworld.com/article/2230075/itunes-windows-end-of-life-music-tv-devices-apps.html>
app. The new app makes it cleaner to see what apps are using iCloud, gauge how
much iCloud+ storage is being used, and more.

What about podcasts? I keep seeing references to tv & music but not to
podcasts. Will the current version of ITunes support podcasts on a Windows
computer?

Those apps are for windows 11, correct? I saw that in the headline of an
article that I didn’t bother to read. I don’t have 11 and can’t get it on my
current windows machine, so I’m thinking I will still have iTunes. Fortunately
I don’t have to use it very much.
