I completely agree, from the perspective of a VoiceOver user Apple
Maps definitely seems to be a better bet, though I must say I've had
little success with sliding my finger around to explore the map.
Whenever you approach a street VoiceOver gives you a chance to pause
to follow it, which seems to mess up the orientation of the map. The
same happens when you reach another street. This is really hard to
explain and I'm not sure whether you or others can comment, but for
instance if you are moving your finger towards the top of the screen
and you reach a street which you want to follow to the right, you
would expect to start sliding to the right to follow it, but this
seems not to be how VO and Maps interact.

Accuracy hasn't been an issue for me either and vehicle turn by turn
directions are nice to have on the lock screen. I truly do miss
transit directions, as I'm invariably running late and it used to be a
tremendous resource to be able to open Maps and glance at them. But
it's not too much trouble to place an icon to an alternative website
where you can check transit directions on the home screen.
