I'm not sure its just a light issue. I tried both of these apps out in the sunlight as well as right on our dining room table which has a large light above it. Didn't matter as these color detectors failed pretty miserably in both conditions. Heck, both apps could not reliably determine the color of the paint on one of my bedrooms even though there was lots of light and it was a large blank wall. In fact, if I left the color detector close to the wall and leaning on a few books in an effort to eliminate hand movement, both color detectors would eventually start speaking random colors. The wall is the same and the placement of the camera is the same, so with good lighting and all things equal, it appears that $1 or $5 doesn't get you much in terms of color identification. Then again, the $1 ColoredEye app was the absolute worst. It feels like I paid for a voice to simply speak random colors with fancy sounding names and 0 relevance to the object of interest. The colorVisor was only marginally better. Don't bother with either of these apps, or at least until an upgrade is posted.

I downloaded one called Color ID which is free but it seems the colors change as I move the phone. After reading the descriptions of Color Visor ($4.99) and Colored Eye ($.99) I don't know that it is any worse than the paid apps as changing colors seems to be a problem due to lighting. It would seem to me that the color apps would make the flash turn on like a flashlight app does so the lighting would be dependable. If that were the case I would pay the money. But I have been burned buying apps that someone or other recommended only to find that they don't work for me at least. I really like it when an app lets you try it for free so you can determine if it works for you before putting out the money.

Hi all,

Besides TapTapSee and such, is there an accessible color identifier
many of you have found useful and accessible? If you have a name of
such a utility I would apreciate knowing about it, so I can then
search for details in iTunes store. Thank you.
