Hi Dana, That is a tricky one, there are OCR apps like Prizmo, Text Detective or SayText, but whether they could read your labels depends entirely on the printing and even more so on how good you are focusing and holding the iPhone perfectly still as well as whether you have very good lighting.
You may want to consider something like the Standscan which sandy described and reviewed a few times over the last few days. It would give you the lighting, right distance and a way to have your iPhone not move when you take the picture. If you haven't seen Sandy's messages, just go to the archives and search for "standscan". If you get items with barcodes there would be Digit Eyes which would read the barcode and even if it doesn't recognize it, you can now record an audio description so that you would hear that if you scanned that same barcode again down the road.
