Hello, I ended up going to app store and reinstalling my apps, and, to my
surprise, my folders returned.

Hello, Paul,

If you're using iTunes to backup and restore, I've heard that you need to
restore twice, once for settings and stuff, and once to download all apps to
your phone from the computer. I think I heard about this from Macworld. This
also preserves the layout of your home screens.

thanks, Ari

  Hi Paul,
  I think you have it.
I find backing up to the computer far more reliable.
  Back up your current phone.
Then, start the setup of the new phone and when you get to the option to set
it up as a new phone or restore from a backup, choose restore from a backup,
you may get an option to restore from the cloud or iTunes, choose iTunes.
Plug the phone in to the computer and follow the prompts. It should default
to the latest backup but double check that it is using the latest one just to
be safe.

You don't have to name the device, but if you plan to use the older device
for anything else, you may want to give the new one a new name, but you can do
that later.

To reset the device to factory settings, go into Settings, General and the
last item will be reset. There are several choices in there, but it sounds
like you want the one that erases the data, etc.

  HTH,

Richard, tell me if any of this is incorrect.

First thing I want to do is back up the phone on the computer.
Then I can restore it to factory defaults; can that be done in settings?

Next get the new phones, enable voiceover, and back up from the computer.
Will I have to enter the name of the new device, i.e. Paul’s iPhone and then
just say that I am backing up from a previously restored device backup?

I assume if I try and back up from the cloud, it will not work as well or
some things could fail to be restored?

    Thanks.

If you restore your new device from a backup of your old device, the
folders will indeed remain the same.
I went from an iPod Touch 3rd gen to an iPod Touch 5th gen with no problem.
If you have a lot of audio content on your device, just plan to be very
patient and leave it alone in the restore process for as much as a few hours.
If you interrupt it too soon, you will have a mess.

Upgrading as far as what? A new device? I don’t think they will be put
onto a new device the way you have them now. You will have to redo them I
think. If I am mistaken, someone please chime in.

      Thanks very much.

BTW will my folders remain the same when I upgrade which we’ll be able to
do in about a week?

Yes, 12 is the limit, unless you have a newer device, such as an iPhone 5
or iPod 5th gen, then it is 16 per folder.

All, is it correct that you can only have 12 apps in a folder?
I tried to add a 13th app into a folder and it would not work.
Also what is the best way to move an app to a different page, i.e. where
should you move your finger, etc.?
Finally, is there a way to move stuff that’s on a page without making it
move to another page?

      Thanks.
