OK, I'll have to try the screwing motion next time. There actually is a
frequency difference between the iPhone microphone and the earPods, which
are les treble. I'm guessing this has a lot to do with what you are wearing
and whether the microphone is near or on an absorptive piece of clothing.
but they are, in fact, the same volume, unlike mine. The ones I have are
going back to the store.

Thanks for the file, and for the comparison of the two microphones. Very
educational.

Hi Scott,

I sent a little file to Neil which I made with List Recorder. I just speak
normally first without the headset plugged in, then I pause the recording,
plug in the earpods and record a bit more. If I didn't say in the recording
that I am now pausing and then that I was now recording using the earpods
you could not even tell the difference, there is absolutely no drop in
volume whatsoever on my iPhone 4S with my earpods.

I guess I must have the right ears then because I can put the earpods in
very lightly since I don't like to stuff them in as far as possible, but for
me they stay in super good. I can tilt my head to the side and shake it and
they won't fall out. I probably repeat something you know, but of course you
have to make sure you put the earpod for the right ear into the right ear
because they definitely don't fit well if you try to reverse them. The side
that has the inline microphone/remote control is the right side. You also
get the best result if you put them in with the cable facing straight forwar
and then to twist them in a bit and rotate them sort of 90 degrees so the
cable is down towards your shoulder. For lack of a better word, you sort of
screw them into your ear. I think for $35 the earpods are by far the best
basic headset there is, it may not sound as good for music as my $200
V-Mota, but then again that would be like comparing a pair of $200 speakers
to a pair of $1,200 speakers. For phone calls, recording voice memos and
listening to audio books I think they are ideal. I bought mine last fall
when they came out and so far they stand up perfectly to how I use them and
I use them every day. Often I just plug them in and run them up under my
sweater and hang them around my neck which allows me to easily pick up just
one if a call comes in and if I don't use them I usually unplug them, roll
them around my fingers and stick them in my jeans front pocket. They
definitely seem to be much better made and more durable than the old Apple
headset that came ith the iPhone and they sound better, too.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Neal.
Yes, I have found this to be the case as well. And, you're right, they are
very odly shaped, and have a habbit of falling out of my ears. I thought it
was just me, but apparently not.
