Hi, this is a great suggestion and it works for me and the people I've mentioned it to. However some are still reporting that even that fails to silence VO while they are on a call. I don't get it.

Guys,

I've discovered that if while on a call, I can stop VO from announcing
information such as the elapsed time of the call by taking the phone away
from my ear and tapping one time toward the bottom of the screen on the End
button. After that there is no interruption. Give that a try.

Hi Susan,

Yes, my 4S also reads out the call duration every 20 seconds or so. It
doesn't matter if I move focus away from this, eventually the screen locks,
then if I continue to talk after about 20 or 30 seconds it resumes reading
the time. I can only hope Apple will implement better handling of this in
iOS 7, as far as I am concerned Voiceover should not say a thing by itself
if I am on a call. I know a bunch of people said to just use a 3-finger
double tap to mute speech altogether, but while this may be a work-around,
it does not address the issue. In any case, if I am out and about and have
my iPhone in it's belt case under a jacket or an inside pocket, I basically
have to stop, tell my dog to wait, then dig out the phone and do all this.

Regards,
Sieghard

I've had similar issues. Good luck. I also have an issue with mine calling
out the elapsed time on the calls. This is so very annoying.
Does yours do that?

Where is this sensor located? Thanks for all the advice. I think it

a hardware problem :(. I will try taking the case off first. I do
have a case on there but it is a minimal case. It's a very simple
one. I mainly have it on there for the antenna gate issue. :)
