I agree text messages are short, but I never found there to be much difference between opening a messages app, entering the recipient and composing my message from sending an email message where I open my email client, enter the recipient and compose my email message. I think the difference is more on the receivers end where since you know text messages are so short, you can toss them up on your display.

On my old AT&T Symbian phone, I could use the text messaging app to send a text or an email. The AT&T server would send it out as a text message if I used a phone number and a email message if I used an email address. As I said above, there's very little difference on the senders end and there's no technical reason why this couldn't be implemented. I suspect it's more of an economic issue.

No you cannot send a text message to an email address through the

text message to an email address but not that I know of for the iPhone.
The idea of a text message is it's short and you don't need to open an
email program.

Brings up a question. When texting, is it the phone number that is
wanted, (always used phone numbers), or can a text be sent with email
address?

Sandy,
You also said that when you select text message from the BrailleTouch
menu,
you are in your Contacts?
That doesn't happen for me. I land in the regular text message window in
the To field.

I type in enough characters to get a match for the person I want to
send it
to, double tap their name in the list that comes up and then double
tap on
Send, where I am put back into the BrailleTouch app.

If you are indeed landing in Contacts, then something is setup very
differently on your iPhone.

Richard

Caleb, Richard and others,

I think Richard may have helped uncover something. Using Braille
Touch, I
texted myself and I got the message and I obviously have an iPhone.
I then tried to text my husband, whom I text for often than anyone else,
who has a droid and message failed. And yes, I am able to text him
without
BT with no difficulty.
I then texted an iPhone-owning good friend (one I know is up and
about at
this early hour) and he got it.

I can type a message and put it in the clipboard, go to Messaging and
address the usual way and paste from the clipboard, but I'd like to
cut out
those steps. Thanks!

Hi Sandy,
I'm sorry you are having trouble texting with BrailleTouch. It sounds
like
you are doing everything correctly. Please try sending a message to
the same
person directly from the phone number in your iPhone address book without
using BrailleTouch. If that works, please try closing BrailleTouch
from the
app switcher and restarting, or try restarting your iPhone.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to email me directly if it still
doesn't
work for you.

Best wishes,
Caleb

I still cannot text with Braille Touch. here is what I do:
1. Type the message.
2. Flick left and find the text message option. I double tap it and land
in my contacts.
3. I navigate to the recipient's info; I find the mobile number and
double
tap. It seems that the number is in the correct place so I tap send.No
dice.
I go to messaging and get an indication of "message failure" but the
failure message has the recipient's name in it! What am I doing wrong?
