A better way of researching a question is by compiling a pool of go-to resources and you will not have to ask the list at all. This will probably eliminate many, many of the questions asked here on almost a weekly cycle. Luckily for IOS there's lots of information out there.

Also, if you are going to give a presentation on the iPhone, why would you not want to conduct lots of research whether podcast or otherwise. Who knows what else you may not know or not even know to consider in regards to other apps or features you will be presenting. In other words, though you may not like it, information of all kinds is always great information.

Hi Dmitriy, I am sorry I miss-spoke about not using crowd sourcing, and I am
very glad to have the correct information. It would appear that lots of
people still feel they need to tell me that I should listen to a podcast
Alan informed me of hours ago. Thanks to Alan, and Jonathan for the help,
and thanks to other assorted people. One way to cut down on traffic on this list is to discover that a question has already been answered multiple times
and to not assume that the questioner needs to be reminded over and over
again. Believe me, it's not that I mind being wrong, I just see wasted
resources when the same question has to be answered multiple times.

I do have one question for you.

What causes the sending of an image to time out? Is it that the image is
unrecognizable, or is it that the image never arrives at the destination.

Thanks for your answer. I will be much wiser now in explaining how this app
works when I do my demo of numerous apps.

Thanks again for writing and for making this amazing app available.

Neal

Hello Neal,

TapTapSee does in fact use a combination of a database algorithm and human
crowdsourcing. The image is first sent out to our database, if it is not
able to recognize it then it is sent out to crowdsourcing.

TapTapSee, as mentioned, can take up to five images at a time and will
identify them in order they are received. The images then get deleted, they are not stored on the user's device. Therefore, there's no need to look for
a clear button. The repeat button helps a user repeat the last identified
result, in case it was missed. The app takes a few seconds to identify an
image. Thus, once an picture is taken, the user should wait a moment for it
to be recognized and for the identification to be read back to the user.

I hope the answers I provided help with some of the questions in this
thread. Please feel free to ask anything else that you'd like clarification
on.

TapTapSee. You can always ask us questions via Twitter, @TapTapSee

Dmitriy

Hi Jonathan, I knew VizWiz did ask a human, but I didn't know that tap tap

online to work out what it is."

I can find nothing about this using a human. I know VizWiz does because you
actually send your request to a real person. Can you give me a source for
how Tap Tap See uses human intervention? I ask because I am doing a
presentation on iPhone apps in a few days and I don't want to give them my
incorrect information if it needs to be corrected.

Thanks much.

Have a nice day down under.

Hi Neal, TapTapSee employs two techniques. It uses an object recognition
database first. If it can't get a result, then it will try crowd sourcing,
that is to say, asking a human.

Does anyone know how the Crowd sourcing works with Tap Tap See? Does taking
too many pictures overload the system? If the system doesn't recognize an
object, is it always routed to a person? If so, I will be much more
judicious on the number of objects I ask TTS to identify.

Patti, This app cycles through 5 pictures which it then deletes. This is why you will hear it say something like picture 3 of 5. It gets to 5 and starts

My guess is that there are two issues here. One, you may not have held the
camera in the right place or maybe too close or to far away. Second, it will
definitely depend on the light the camera sees. I can have it look at the
same object in different times of day and it will say slightly different
things. It does time out if it cannot see the picture or if it doesn't know what it is. I would suggest practicing with this in your home where you know various objects are located and see if you can come up with some strategies
of working with the camera. This might help you when you are in other
locations.

I hope this helps.

Hey yall. I went to the store today with a friend and while she was off
looking for something else, I got out my phone and opened up the Tap Tap See
app to see what happened with it.

I was in the pet aisle because I had just got a bag of cat litter.

so, I opened up the app and it said when I took the first picture, that it
was showing a bag of Meow Mix cat food.

"Cool" I thought, so I tried it again, and none of the other pictures I took
worked. Either they timed out or they were blurry.

Do I need to delete each picture I take before I take a new one, I just
couldn't figure out why I got those responses after that first picture.

I didn't think I was holding the phone any differently.

Just wondered, I could have a lot of fun with this app if I knew what I was
doing wrong.

Thanks,

Patti
