I'm just the opposite. I feel that having a keyboard for the iPhone helps me more when I'm doing a lot of writing. However when it comes to the iPad I turn that sucker on its side and can type reasonably well using the keyboard in landscape. If I want to be even faster I fire up Fleksy and type away. The speed which is increased by typing this way is still faster even though I have to copy and paste the text into another app. So, no keyboard has been needed for my specific situation.

I know, and I hope I can do that. do you have a keyboard with your IPad, or
not? I thought that getting one might help, but would it really? Jim

Jim, you can record on the IPad with an app. I doubt if the quality is as
good as you would like for recording music. I think there are others on
this list who are heavily involved in music production and could better
answer your question. I know you will love your IPad Mini. Learning the
gestures is aabsolutely critical.

There is also a great app in the app store called Looktel voiceover,
I think and it
is a great way to practice the gestures. I agree that you should
bookmark Applevis
because it is a great resource for learning about apps to get and
those to stay
        away from.

As I said in a previous pose, once you power up your iPad,
triple click the
home button to turn voice over on. Do this before you do anything
else, or you will
need sighted help to turn it on in settings, general, accessibility,
voice over.
Once you have voice over running, you will want to go to the
voice over
area in settings, general, accessibility, voice over. Their you will
find a
practice area where you can learn the special gestures associated
with voice over.
Spend some time here... Learning the gestures wool go a long way to
making your
        iPad experience a happy one.
Once you are comfortable using the iPad, I highly suggest
you go to the app
store and download the free app, Fleksy. It is a keyboard
specifically designed for
the blind, which makes typing faster. I am using it to type this
post.

                        Hi All,

At the moment, I am a PC user, but as of Monday next
week, I will
own an IPad mini. I don't know anything except I think that the IPad
will allow me
to do more things than I can with my windows 7 computer.

I'm getting my IPad mini from the apple store next
Monday.
My
sighted wife is also getting one. I am a total. So, what do I need
to know going
into the apple store, and how do I set up the IPad mini to get on my
network at
home etc.? I know there will be more questions but, right now, that
will do. Thanks
        for your input. Jim
