Hi, Alan. I only have a couple of Kindle books but they are on my PC with azw extensions and one is 15MB and the other is 26MB. I assume this is their original and complete format so I'm not really sure what you mean. The filenames are a bit cryptic since they contain no title but just a book number. I don't disagree with your assessment of the Kindle for PC program but it seems once you've downloaded it, Amazon keeps track of that and gives you the option to save a new Kindle purchase to either your iDevice or your PC. At least it did for me.
