I don't know if this still works but once upon a time it was possible to put your friends into a category called close friends. Then you could set up to receive new posts from that group as push notifications on your phone. A few months ago they broke the ability to put friends into different groups so as long as they fixed that then I imagine it will still work. I'm going to try it out myself.
