>From what I have seen they do not auto-replenish. Like your wood, stone, and ore, the subjects are used up as you go along doing things in the game. To get more you have to upgrade the farm more.
Does anyone know much about alliances? I have been contacted by six or seven to join their alliance, but am not sure if I should or not.
