For all of my mobile devices, I set the brightness to 0 percent. Since
I can't read them, no reason to waste power on a bright display. I do
also use the screen curtain, mainly because I do have some vision and
my eyes are very light sensitive.
Original message:
Hello Listers,
As has been pointed out before, the screen curtain does not help extend
battery life. I wrote to Apple Accessibility and ask for an official
statement regarding screen curtain and brightness and below is the reply:

Subject: [415306] Screen curtain and battery draining
Hello, Sieghard.
Dimming the screen is the correct means of regulating backlight power
consumption for best battery life between charges. Officially:
"[turning] screen curtain 'on' has no effect on battery. Dimming the screen
does effect the battery."
The curtain function is a means to obscure screen content quickly, hence the
three-finger triple-tap activates it.
Please feel welcome to share this information with your discussion group.

Apple Accessibility
