Hello Shai,

I definitely think you should turn auto brightness off and, unless you
yourself have useable vision or have a sighted person who often uses the
phone I would turn brightness to 0.
You can always turn it up if needed, this will be very much easier next week
when iOS 7 comes out where you can simply touch an item in the status bar,
swipe up with 3 fingers to bring up the new Control Center where you have
the brightness settting easily accessible.
If you are concerned somebody reads over your shoulder where they shouldn't,
you can still turn the screen curtain on, it won't extend your battery life,
but it shouldn't hurt it, either.

Regards,
Sieghard

battery draining

Hello Sieghard,
Thanks for checking in on this. Would it be good then to turn screen curtain
off, set brightness down to 0 and turn autobrightness off to keep that
setting?
Also, what about if a sighted person were to use the phone, should that
setting be left on? Would one still get the same affect of increased battery
life?
Thanks in advance for your response

Hello Listers,

As has been pointed out before, the screen curtain does not help extend
battery life. I wrote to Apple Accessibility and ask for an official
statement regarding screen curtain and brightness and below is the reply:

Hello, Sieghard.

Dimming the screen is the correct means of regulating backlight power
consumption for best battery life between charges. Officially:

"[turning] screen curtain 'on' has no effect on battery. Dimming the screen
does effect the battery."

The curtain function is a means to obscure screen content quickly, hence the
three-finger triple-tap activates it.

Please feel welcome to share this information with your discussion group.

Apple Accessibility
