When using standard typing, you have to double tap on each letter before it is selected or printed on the screen. Touch typing involves sliding your finger over the letters on the keyboard. When you hear the letter you want, lift your finger and that letter is activated or printed. selected. You can try both modes by double tapping on an edit box and selecting typing mode in the rotor. BTW when the I phone first came out, standard typing was the only option available.
