hi ray,

I'm not hte best person probly but, I'm told switching carriers you need a new idivice as each is customised for said carrier. Which is kinda icky if you ask me. You'd think they'd just generalise the divice and you could switch carriers.

I am reading this discussion with some interest. I am looking at switching from ATT when I return to the US. Will a change of carrier also necessitate a change of equipment? I suspect it may but
help me out folks?

Raul,
My wife and I are on a shared data plan, where we share 6 GB of data each month. This is with AT&T. Early in our time with this plan, we regularly used between 85 percent and nearly all of the data. Now we are better about splitting our time between wifi at work and our data when at home or out and about. We can still use at least two thirds of the data though. Our contract runs out next September and we are anxiously counting the months to when we can switch to Sprint for the unlimited data. My data use is mainly streaming media and downloading books and podcasts, and hers is mainly Facebook and playing online games with others. In addition, we are hoping to add an iPad Mini to our plan with Sprint, so I think the unlimited data will serve us well. From what I've read and heard from others, it seems like Sprint is at least $30 less, if not more, than the other major U.S. carriers.

Jmt,
Wayne

Hi, one thing I'm curious about is how much data did you use with AT&T?
The thing I've noticed, and have even seen statistics on, and
participated in discussions on Lifehacker and similar is that when
people have unlimited data it's more for peace of mind, rather than
actually using it. I recently had 6gb of data on 4 phones with data
share and upgraded over the summer to 10gb because I added a 5th phone.
So, now I see it as each phone can use around 2gb of data to share it
evenly. Even then, not all phones do, and for the last few months,
barely 5 gb have been used. So, in a sense, we have unlimited data,
but it's not written that way on paper.

I think it's great that you moved to a new provider because of special
incentives, but just know that in the end, people usually end up
paying around the same when it comes to the big 3 or big 4 carriers in the states.

Thanks to all who gave input on the difference between Sprint and
T-mobile. I have decided to leave A T & T after 12 years and have
decided to go with Sprint. The unlimited data is very appealing to me.
So, in about 8 weeks I will get my gold iPhone 5s. I will report back
to let everyone know my pros and cons with Sprint compared to A T &
T. I am sure hoping I won't be disappointed but if I am, I have 14
days to go back to A T & T. Thanks again to all. It was a hard choice
but Sprint was offering some pretty great incentives.
