When you say according to Apple, where did you read this? I don't doubt
you, but I posted the link to the iTunes Match FAQ a few days ago, and
it explained what Ricardo is seeing. I did a Google search to find this,
so I'm just curious where Apple announced and documented this change.

What Ricardo describes is how Music Match always behaved before iOS 7.
According to Apple, the behaviour is supposed to now be what Cara describes.
Unless Recardo has not yet updated the particular iPhone, I would wonder why he
is getting the earlier actions from his iDevice.

Interesting,
For me the song does not get downloaded unless I tap the download button next
to it.
Just tried it before I posted last night to make sure. :)
Thanks!
Cara :)

Hi Cara,
In my experience this is definitely not the case. For example, Go to
settings/general/usage, and make sure you have no music on your device. If
there is, hit the edit button in the music section of usage, and delete all
music. Now, play 3 songs via iTunes match. Finally, go to
settings/general/about, and you will see that there are now 3 songs on your
device. I think it just streams while songs you play are being downloaded.

Hi Christopher,
The docs may say that but in practice that's not what seems to happen. :)
When you play a track from iCloud that track is still there and you still have
the option to download it to your device. The track is not actually on your
device.
So it does stream to your device.
If you wish to download the track there is a button to the right of the track
which allows you to do this. When you do this, the button goes away and you
need to delete the track from your device in order to bring it back.
Hope this helps and thanks for posting that!
Smiles,
Cara :)

I didn't ask the original question, but I noticed that it said the following on
the iTunes Match FAQ at http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/
Does iTunes Match stream or download songs?
On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played,
though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download
button. iOS devices will start playing tracks from iCloud as they download and
will store them so that you can listen to them later even if you don’t have a
network connection. Apple TV only streams songs.

Hi there,
iTunes Match is what you want.
You do not need to have an item downloaded to your phone in order to play it.
NOt sure where that info came from but rest assured that iTunes Match is meant
specifically for this sort of thing.
Best of luck and have a great day / evening!

Cara :)

Hi,
My music library exceeds the storage space on my IPhone. I have currently
handled this by selecting particular songs to sync between ITunes and my
phone. What I'd like to do is play my music on my IPhone without having to
load it on the phone.
I thought ITunes Match might work but from what I read there is not an
option to play a song without loading it onto my IPhone. Is there another
app or service that will do this?
Thanks
