I too just began using an iOS device with a keyboard and found little logic to the command structure--enter doesn't seem to enter :), so I decided its time to crank up the "muscle memory" until the commands fall into reflex status. If you are new to a touch screen, I suggest you first try to learn how to use the device as it was intended so you can learn the logic of iOS. Once you learn how to interact with the device using touch, you can then move on to using a keyboard and such.
