The funny thing about this is that though you try to black out the screen
for privacy purposes, people will still bug you. The exchange goes as
follows:

"its off,"

I'm sorry, are you referring to me?

"Yes, your screen is turned off."

At this point I have to decide whether I say "thank you for telling me, " or
I explain to them what the device is doing and risk offending the person by
trying to prevent them from trying to peak at my iDevice's screen. I usually
just thank them. <Smile>.

Hi Jose,

As Gerado already pointed out, it is simply a means for privacy since as a
blind person you can't always be sure that somebody isn't looking at your
phone from a few feet away.

The screen curtain actually does nothing to brightness, it simply
artificially blacks out the screen. There have been claims that using the
screen curtain saves battery, but this is not correct. I at one point asked
Apple Accessibility and received a reply stating that use of the screen
curtain does not improve battery life. If you don't have sighted people
using your phone you can turn brightness down to 0% which actually will save
you battery. Keep in mind that this simply means the backlight is turned to
0% and it is still possible to see and read what is on the screen although
it is much more difficult especially in bright light.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hello; Listers, I have a question! What is the screen curtain used for? Does
it make the screen brightness lower like up to 0%? Does it waist the
battery? Please let me know!
