Often these picker item fields pop up towards the bottom of the phone once you double tap. For example, if it asks for you rexpiration month, double tap on that, then check towards the bottom of the screen to see if you find a place which lists the months, then flick up or down to find the month you need. I can't remember if this is the case here, but often you then have to flick left to find a "Done" button and double tap it before you can move on to the next picker item which in your case would be the expiration year.

Bring up the App Store app on your iPhone, double tap the share tab at the bottom of the screen, double tap in the search field and type your search string, which would probably be iPlayer in this case. You can then select from the list of suggestions below the edit field or double tap the search button at the right of the keyboard to kick off a complete search. When the information on the iPlayer app comes up, double tap on the free button and then on the install button. You'll be prompted for your Apple ID password. After it's installed, you can double tap the open button or look for it in your last home page. I hope this helps. I also hope it's accurate. I'm in a hurry, so I'm doing this from memory.
