The Apple certified cables with lightning adaptors have a special chip which
communicates with the battery system in the iDevice to best manage the battery
charge and condition. Non Apple certified lightning adaptor cables do not have
this chip, and will shorten one's ultimate battery life. I only use Apple
certified cables for this reason.

Also, Apple certified wall adaptors have regulator technology which stops
current flow if there is a strong power draw as well as surge protection. This
system communicates with the lightning chip to best manage the iDevice or Mac
battery condition and charging.
