I love my iPad mini for some things but despite setting it to slow motion
often find that it takes almost no touch to open something I had no
intention of opening It depends, most of the time if I am trying to get an
app, or to work with my bank site I will use the phone because it seems just
a touch less sensitive and I am familiar with where the buttons are. I use
the iPad more for book related things, although I had plenty of them on my
phone also, or I use the iPad for Facebook, twitter where having the larger
screen generally means more info before having to switch. I only have the
mini because I showed my late husband how to use him when he got it for use
when he was hospitalized, so then he got me one as a present. I had no
thoughts of getting one last year but, I do use it often. Just depends
where I am.

My take on this is that i can understand the reasoning that the larger
screen is better for dragging your finger around it thus locating things,
but at least for me with bigger IPads it was a nightmare to flick around on.
All too often the Ipad or rather the os misinterpreted my gestures so
instead of swiping an object to the right, it read me a character or changed
language or did something else unrequired and as if that wasn't
enough, sometimes i didn't move forward but rather read the same word or
sentence over and over again, sometimes after having advanced some ways in
the text. This made me so annoyed that i sold the old IPads and swore i'd
never put my fingers on an IPad thingy again. Then came the Mini and now i
have an IPad Mini Retina. I can operate that thing relativley easily, some
of the problems still persist but they have been less frequent, so maybe i
could get used to a larger screen in time, who knows.

Two years ago I would have said I like the small screen. However, after
going from the 3.5-inch screen of an iPod Touch 4 to the 4-inch screen of an
iPhone5, I find I prefer the iPhone's larger display now that I'm used to it
and can compare the two. If I were to go to an iPad tomorrow, I'd hate it,
and I've tried them before so I have some experience. However, the
incremental increases in screen size seem to be a way of easing into the new
screen sizes; maybe I'll love the 4.7-inch over the 4-inch in another year
or so, then an iPad Mini won't seem bad at all. Of course, all this is as
subjective as which speech synthesizer is best, and we all have to use what
we like most. I guess I'm mostly saying this: don't dismiss the larger
screen outright; give it a chance and see if you don't wind up liking it
after all. Plus, a larger screen means a larger battery and more icons on
the home screen (probably), so that's a plus no matter what your visual
situation is.

 Hi David,
While I respect your opinion about the larger screens, personally I like the
smaller screen no matter what anybody says.
I have used larger screens such as the iPad, and hated it. But again, I
respect your opinion, but please don't put the rest of us down.

Contrary to popular opinion amongst the blind, opinion which is actually
extremely limiting amongst blind people, a larger screen is actually better
for us blind people. I have been working with an itinerant teacher of low
vision and blind children testing this. When the blind children use the
touch-screen directly through dragging the finger around the screen on the
iPad to explore, rather than merely using the serial interface of keyboard
commands or finger flicking commands, once they adapt to said interface,
their productivity and speed becomes significantly quicker with improved
understanding of visual layouts and where to locate desired information.
Note: all testing and training is being performed with full-sized iPads.
Perhaps, mainly blind children have the mental flexibility and intelligence
to effectively adapt to a more useful and efficient interface.

Greetings:

I am not confident that the iPhone 6 will represent a total positive for the
blind. For one thing, rumor has it that the iPhone 6 will be larger than the
five series, which is a negative from my point of view despite its allegedly
faster processor and more sophisticated internal technology. Also, the
iPhone 6 will be a bit thinner, which causes me to wonder about the quality
of the built-in speaker.

Before I decide to jump into an iPhone 6, I will want to examine it
thoroughly at the Apple Store. Otherwise, the iPhone 5S seems a very good
alternative since I personally don't need enhanced power from my iPhone in
any case.

On the other side of the argument is the high probability that the iPhone 66
is going to have a camera with more megapixels than the iPhone 5 series.

Hi Listers,

I want to get the new KNFB reader and only have a 4s phone. Should I wait
for the iPhone 6 or get the 5s?
