Hi Keith, Normally if the device is unchanged a new backup will overwrite any existing backups. Is it possible you backed up a device you don't have any more? Anyhow, just do the following to check what backups you have and to delete them:
1. Go to Settings, iCloud, Storage and Backup and then tap on "Manage Storage". 2. Check what backups you have from which devices. You can double tap on any of the backups/devices and at the bottom of that screen is a Delete button. Here you can also see all your apps, whether they backup to iCloud and, if so, how much space they require. If there are apps you don't feel you want to backup to iCloud you can turn them off. Here is a link to an Apple support article where this is also explained, a quick Google search for "How can I delete my iCloud backup" gave me that link: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12792 Good luck, Sieghard -----Original Message----- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D. Sent: Thursday, September 11, 2014 9:23 AM To: 'viphone@googlegroups.com' Subject: RE: I must be totally stupid i have forgotten. Hi, I sent a message to the list a few days back about doing an iCloud backup, but didn't get a response. Trying again in view of this subject. I have iCloud backup turned on. My iPhone says there's not enough free space. When I look, there is a 2.9GB backup there. I presume I need to delete that one in order to backup again. Would that be right? I can't think of any other reason I first got an iCloud bakup successfully, but now can't do it again. How do I delete that first backup? Any other insights? Thanks for any help. Hi Krister, If you are using iTunes, plug your phone in and select Restore from the device area. Once the restore is completed you will be asked if you want to set the phone up as a new device or restore from a backup. At that point you can choose to restore either your iCloud backup or an iTunes backup if you have done one. If you have the option to restore from iTunes I would highly recommend to do an encrypted backup and restore from it as it is much faster and gives you the most from a restore. If you want to do it all from your phone I assume you would simply go into Settings, General, Reset and select to "erase all content and settings". This would put your phone back to the factory default and once again after that is done you should have the option to set up as a new phone or to restore from your iCloud backup. Hi there, I’m right now searching high and low on the IPhone 5S after how on earth i do when i restore a copy of the phones settings that was previously backed up to ICloud. All i can see is ”backup now” and when the latest backup was done but i want to restore from a copy on ICloud, how do i do that? I should know but don’t. /Krister -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default.
