Back in 2007, I worked with a company that was trying to develop a portable OCR system for the blind. We found that sighted people are able to keep the digital camera image extremely stable. Blind people, on the other hand, are unable to do this because we cannot see when the image moves and shakes very slightly. We do not have the feedback from our eyes to perform the automatic corrections which cause the hand not to drift. It is better when we use two hands, but the problem persists. In other words, it is, and will always be, a very big problem.
