I've been using contracted Braille for so long that typing uncontracted Braille is more distracting for me than dealing with the delay. But it might work better for you; you never know. I find that turning automatic translation off lets me keep my writing rhythm going when I only have to press the translate command at the end of a paragraph or before a hard carriage return.
