Hi, I agree that some might think that doing an iTunes backup, clearing app
switcher, and all the other things might be overkill. However when you are the
one who did all these things and you are the one who survived a data loss from
something going wrong with your upgrade, it won’t seem like an overkill any
ore. In some cases what I do is an iTunes encrypted backup first, and then once
it’s connected there to the pc after the backup, I just upgrade. However if I
don’t use iTunes, and just do an OTA upgrade, I still backup to iTunes first in
case of catastrophe. I may not do everything that others do, but I still don’t
just update over the air either.

Cheers.

Hi Lori

Nice to express such happy feelings! I was a beginner too 10 months ago. I
didn’t even know how to configure an iPhone on my own. Many of us blinds seem
to care about making mistakes or thinking they will never manage to fulfill
such tasks without risks. Well I can tell you friends of mine are experienced
sighted chaps even making huge mistakes and taking no precautions and so losing
all their music or contacts like happened by one of them yesterday. I am very
pleased too then that you, even as a blind, can give advise to be more careful
the next time, or empty the app switcher or even reboot their phones before
doing any update.

Regards

Davy

Hi Teresa,

Thank you. Yes, it does feel good to have successfully accomplished doing a
software update myself without any help. Some things are a challenge for me
like iTunes but I do eventually get it.
