I did get it to build after much frustration with this configuration (on a g4 powerbook) . I actually had to manually edit a couple of the shell scripts that load the vad files because of some osx wonkiness. Unfortunately this is all on my home computer, but I'll take a look when I get home and see what I did. I didn't have that issue with flex. Make sure that you update all of your ports as specified in the instructions (and use port to do so...).
