Thanks, Peter.  I'm working with 6938 in an attempt to solve the 
long-standing problem with flushing an empty file, then writing to it 
as ftmp-posix.t does.  I hacked around the new d_SCNfldbl config item 
but I leave to your more experience hands the proper patch to 
configure.com.
