Thanks for posting this, Peter.  I've been at a conference this past week 
and didn't keep up with the final release as much as I would have liked.  
5.8.0 should build cleanly on any VMS system at 5.5 or later (possibly 
earlier though no reports have come in).  There will be some test failures 
on pre-7.0 systems due to features that are unsupported or inadequately 
supported in the C run-time.  The sheer number of tests has doubled or 
tripled since the previous release, so don't be alarmed if you have a couple 
of failures that you didn't see in 5.6.1.  Do be sure to analyze and report 
test failures that have not already been discussed on this list, and do take 
responsibility for determining whether a particular failure indicates a 
problem with a feature you can live without or a more fundamental issue.
