(you've heard this before) that was me, and I did get SMG to build, after chasing my tail for too long.
I am leaving for a vacation, but when I get back I should finally be able to put it back up on CPAN. It will have a position in the VMS namespace, e.g. VMS_SMG or something along those lines, unless there are objects. I'll post here before I put it up in CPAN.
