My point is more the fact that NetBEUI is not needed at all for VNC to work.
Why add another network layer for no reason, much less an unsupported
network layer?  This is equivalent to fixing a flat tire by replacing the
car.

I have no direct experience mixing Win95 and WinXP, but I believe properly
configured NetBEUI isn't required.  I know for a fact that networking Win98
and WinXP machines doesn't require NetBEUI.

There is a reason Microsoft is dropping support for NetBEUI.

If you would like we can continue this discussion off-list, but for the
record NetBEUI is in no way needed for VNC to work.
