Can't connect to VNC running on Linux Fedora core 2 box

How do you make sure that xvnc is really running,  Why?  When I look at the 
"status" in the "Service Configuration"  window   it always says "Xvnc is 
stopped"  yet when I issue a "kill"  it references a "pid" and imply that it 
is killing something
