Wez:

I'm sorry to have become the most difficult user of the
day...but I'm not seeing what you describe. When I add DWORD registry settings DebugMode=4 and DebugLevel=10 to HKLM...WinVNC3,
then all of the older versions correctly open a stdout window
when the service is started. When I add those two DWORDS to
HKLM...WinVNC4, no stdout window is created.

Can any other 4.1.1 user confirm this?

And Wez...can you provide the exact command-line sequence
that you use to generate log files? Not that you *do* generate
log files that way (I understand that you make registry settings
to do it), but if you *were* to use the command-line, can you
provide the exact details of what works for you?

thanks,
Scott

Scott,

The Log setting is added to the registry in the same way as any other VNC 4
setting, under HKLM/Software/RealVNC/WinVNC4.

Wez @ RealVNC Ltd.

Sorry, didn't help: I tried setting the log parameters
after the -register switch, and it behaves the same as when I
put it before the switch: it parses the data (ie, if I mispell
a log type it correctly throws an error), but no log file is
generated (and/or no stdout window is opened). Commands were:

C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC4> winvnc4 -stop
C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC4> winvnc4 -unregister
C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC4> winvnc4 -register Log=main:stdout:10
C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC4> winvnc4 -start

As for why I'm not just adding options to the registry,
I must have misread your earlier post about this:

http://www.realvnc.com/pipermail/vnc-list/2005-April/050192.html

You seemed to imply there that setting DebugMode and
DebugLevel in the registry doesn't enable logging in the VNC4
series. Exactly what registry entries should I set to activate
logging in 4.1.1? Alternatively, can you provide the exact
command-line sequence that you use to generate log files?

thanks,
Scott
