I also have exactly the same problem (including the same error message)
on an 64 Xeon processor running Fedora 5, and updating the x86-64
version of the vncserver didn't solve the problem.
The only way found to circumvent the problem was to install the i386
package of the vnc server, along with the required dependencies. Then
the vncconfig utlilty works fine, although it's a bit depressing needing
to go back to a code supposedly written for 32 bit processors!
At least I can cut & paste between my local and remote machines.

Hi,
I am running vnc-server on FC5 (x64).
But vncconfig won't come up, it gives the following error.
vncconfig
X Error of failed request: BadLength (poly request too large or
internal Xlib length error)
Major opcode of failed request: 134 (VNC-EXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request: 1 ()
Serial number of failed request: 65
Current serial number in output stream: 65
It started fine on FC4 (x64 too).
I browsed through this list and found the following mail, but this
didn't help getting vncconfig starting again.
Any hint on what might be wrong?
No idea? Anyone?
Thanks
Markus
