Hello All,

I know this is a very common problem, but I feel like I've read through
almost everything I could about my problem, and I still can't find a
solution to it. Here's what I've got working so far:

1) I'm running winXP media center SP2, road runner ISP Linksys or Belkin
routers (tried both), Toshiba pcx2600 cable modem

2) I am pretty sure the VNC server is set up properly. I am able to connect
the VNC client to the local host, and when I type netstat -an | find ":5900"
I get the following line:

  TCP 0.0.0.0:5900 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

and when I stop the VNC server service and type netstat -an | find ":5900"
again, nothing comes up. So, I'm sure that nothing is trying to "steal" the
connection.

3) I ran the check at http://www.gotomyvnc.com to make sure my port
forwarding was working properly. Here's the output from the site (cutting
out the bottom half... cause I only have display 0 forwarding):

Checking you out at IP address "***.***.***.***"...
***.***.***.*** is accepting connections on Display 0 (TCP port 5900).
***.***.***.*** is not responding on Display 1.
etc...

4) I went to realvnc.com's tester at
http://www.realvnc.com/cgi-bin/nettest.cgi, i get the following output:

The IP address requesting this web page is ***.***.***.*** (REMOTE_ADDR)
Connecting to port 5900 ... succeeded.
Waiting for server to send version string...
Found a server supporting protocol version 3.8.

So I'm pretty sure I have the port forwarding working properly.

Then, my next logical step would be to try using the VNC client using my WAN
ip instead of my LAN ip. At this point, I get the connection refused
message. So I try the LAN ip just to make sure it's still working, and it
is. So then I tried these things:

1) Using telnet to connect to the VNC server. I can telnet to the LAN ip,
but I can not telnet to the WAN ip.

2) Disabling windows firewall entirely and repeating all the steps - where I
got exactly the same results.

Has anybody run into this problem where the port forwarding appears to be
working properly, but still getting the connection refused message? I have
successfully set up a VNC server through a router before, but somehow I must
have done something differently this time. Any help would be greatly
appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Eric
