Dear James:

As I said in my first message I disabled completely the firewall so it's not a
firewall problem.

I'm using the correct IP address.

Whenever I try to connect to my home's PC (VNC Negotiation) I immediately get
the message "Host has closed the sesion".

Please help.

Thanks,

Roberto

Hi Robert,

Its best to use Reply-to-All with the mailing list, to cause it to be CCd so
that others can see your replies to posts.

The Connection timed out means one of two things:

1. The system you are trying to connect to has a firewall enabled.
2. The IP address you are trying to connect to does not correspond to
the system you are trying to connect to.

The most obvious candidate to check is the Windows Firewall on the server
computer.

Regards,

Subject: RE: Unable to connect to VNC

Dear James:

Sorry for the vague email.

What I meant is that I used to connect to my home's PC from my iPod touch's
VNC Lite application with no problems but after formatting my hard disk drive
and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP I no longer can.

I have been struggling with this issue for several weeks and I have exhausted
all possibilities (I think) and don't know what else to try.

I'm using VNC Server Free Edition version 4.1.3 and Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 3.

This is what I have tried so far with no success:

- Configured my 2Wire's 2701HG-T port forwarding. Both TCP and UDP ports
5500,5800 and 5900. This 2Wire router (2701HG-T) always forwards incoming
packets to my home's PC private IP address (192.168.x.xx).

- Did everything from http://www.realvnc.com/support/portforward.html with no
success.

- Did everything from
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/2wire/2701HG-T/Rea
lVNC.htm with no success.

- Page http://www.realvnc.com/cgi-bin/nettest.cgi shows:

"The IP address requesting this web page is 189.xxx.xxx.xxx (REMOTE_ADDR) (I
think this is an external IP address).

Connecting to port 5900 ... failed: connection timed out"

- Disabled both Windows XP Pro and 2Wire's router firewalls. Didn't make any
difference.

- Tried to connect to my home's PC from my iPod touch VNC Lite app using both
the private and public IP addresses. Didn't make a difference.

Please help.

Thanks,
Roberto
